manganese qustion 40 (E)(iii) why does it break down could i get an answer before the exams by u seeing me in school any time tommorow 14/12 tuseday

Is this the one about silver chloride? Not needed for this december exam manganese.

Just in case you are itching to know though, white Silver Chloride breaks down to it's (darker) elements due to a process called photodecomposition when exposed to light. See http://jchemed.chem.wisc.edu/JCESoft/CCA/CCA3/MAIN/PHOTOAG/PAGE1.HTM for an example.

It is an example of a decomposition reaction, in which a compound breaks down into it's parts when energy is added. You don't need to know this for this december exam as we have not studied decompositions yet.

Energy can be added by heating (thermal decomposition) or by light (photodecomposition) or by electrolysis among other ways.
